YOU at Western

YOU at Western is a confidential space for students to “own” their well-being. From mental and physical health, to friendships and finding balance. Students can take an honest look at where they are with Self Checks and explore tailored content and define a path forward to succeed, thrive, and matter.

WellTrack

WellTrack is a free online self-help application that is available free of charge to all WMU students, faculty and staff. Users are able to assess their personal well-being and access resources tailored to address symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. WellTrack is secure, anonymous, evidence-based, easy to use and effective. WellTrack offers wellness techniques through videos, relaxation exercises, mood tracking tools, and written exercises to improve emotional health. Download from your app store and sign in with your BroncoNetID and password.

Health Promotion and Education

Creates a culture of well-being and social justice to enhance the success of all members of the campus community. Programs include FIRE Place Resource and Support Center, Wellness Workshops, Western H.E.R.O.E.S., Gentlemen United, Sexual Health Peer Educators, Alcohol and Other Drugs Risk Reduction, and “We Choose to End Sexual Violence.”

 

Student Recreation Center

Offers quality facilities and fitness programs for students and staff. The University Recreation office promotes healthy lifestyle choices, team building, leadership skills and opportunities for positive social interaction.

 

Disability Services for Students

Provides tutoring and small group literacy instruction to individuals of all ages who may be experiencing difficulties with reading and writing.

 

Invisible Need Project

This is a multi-faceted initiative intended to serve students with unmet needs, while strengthening the culture of giving at Western Michigan University. The Project engages the entire campus community, encouraging all faculty, staff, administrators, and fellow students to come together to help students in need. Includes: WMU Food Pantry, Student Emergency Relief Fund, and the Staufer Health Emergency Fund.

Counseling Services

Offers short-term individual, couples and group counseling for a diverse student population. Counselors help students identify challenges and make changes to manage the emotional and social difficulties that might complicate college life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Counseling Services is offering telehealth visits, assistance with finding local support, and virtual webinars.

 

Centers for Counseling and Psychological Services

Master's and doctoral degree students affiliated with the department provide professional counseling and psychological services at the centers. Graduate student counselors are supervised by faculty members who are professional counselors or psychologists. During the COVID-19 pandemic, visits are also offered via telehealth.

 

WMU Unified Clinics

Multi-specialty group practice including Behavioral Health Services, Language, Speech, and Hearing Clinic, Music Therapy, Massage Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Vision Clinic, the Western Evaluation Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and Women’s Health Services. The Unified Clinic services are an inter-university collaboration to serve the community as well as provide clinical training experiences for students.

HIGH/CRISIS SYMPTOMS National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. A trained crisis worker at your local center will answer the phone. This person will listen to you, understand how your problem is affecting you, provide support, and get you the help you need.

Crisis Text Line

Crisis Text Line is here for any crisis. A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from our secure online platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment.

Serves as an information resource on the role and value of diversity in education for WMU, and for the greater Kalamazoo communities. The office focuses on: Academic progress monitoring, employment and internships, events and programs that promote cultural awareness, mentor and peer mentor programs, multicultural programs, networking opportunities, one-on-one tutoring, support for student organizations, scholarship information.

In partnership with The Steve Fund, the Crisis Text Line is here for any crisis for young persons of color. A live, trained Crisis Counselor identifying as BIPOC receives the text and responds, all from our secure online platform.

If you are in crisis, feeling suicidal, or in need of a safe and judgement-free place to talk, the TrevorLifeline is a crisis intervention and suicide prevention phone service available 24/7/365 for LGBTQ youth and allies. TrevorText, confidential text messaging with a Trevor counselor, is also available by texting START to 678-678.

 

Trans Lifeline

The Trans Lifeline is a trans-led organization that connects trans people to the community, support, and resources that they need to survive and thrive. The peer support hotline is available 10am-4am EST if you are in crisis or just need someone to talk to.

 

Vet Self-Check
A safe, easy way to learn weather stress and depression might be affecting you. A VA Chat Responder will review your results and leave a personal response on the secure website. The Responder’s note will offer options for follow-up if it’s felt that could be helpful.

The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs provides guidance and mentorship for veterans, those still serving and their family members. We offer assistance in academic and benefit support; we also bring answers to questions regarding WMU, the VA and southwest Michigan.
