December 2021Cabinet Update

A Message from Speaker Shapiro

Happy End of the Semester, Broncos! I could not be more thrilled to help usher you all out of the Fall 2021 semester and into a well-deserved winter break. In truth, I was asked to write something here as the opening paragraph for this issue of theLEGACY, but I don’t know what to write. So, I am going to simply ask: what is a wombat supposed to be? Google says it is a four-legged marsupial from Australia, but why was it named a wombat? It doesn’t appear to be a type of bat, so why even have a bat in the name! Also, what does “wom” mean? Why are wombats here and what do they want? Is it possible to get one for research purposes? I know the university is generally able to acquire whatever it needs for research. Is it possible to get the university to buy us a wombat? Would a wombat make a nice pet? If you or a friend have an answer to any of these questions, please contact me at wsa_spkr@wmich.edu.

Warmest Regards,

Dakota Shapiro
