Academic College (Major, Minors, Etc)

College of Engineering and Applied Sciences with major in Chemical and Paper Engineering and minor in Mathematics and Chemistry

Favorite Part of WSA

“My favorite part of WSA is the opportunity to be involved with WMU and creating change to make it even better. I love working with fellow legislators to improve the environment we’re learning and living in.”

Interest, Hobbies, and other Organizational Involvement

“I am also a part of Cru, the Honors College, ALD Honors Society, and Ts’ai Lun (the Paper Engineering RSO). I am hoping to become more involved in AlChE (the Chemical Engineering RSO) and especially CAB. Through these RSOs, I hope to become even more involved with life here at WMU. In my free time, and there’s not much, I also enjoy playing Pokémon Go (I know, it’s old now) and playing card games with friends (2nd Floor Eldridge is the best!).”

Additional information about Senator of the Month

“I am honored by this recognition and hope to continue to be worthy of this achievement! Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in this organization and for a great year so far. I can’t wait to finish it out strong and continue to serve the student body.”

Name and Academic Standing

Katrina Marek - Senior

Academic College (Major, Minors, Etc)

College of Arts and Sciences with an English Major and Spanish Minor

Favorite Part of WSA

“One of my favorite things is seeing completed projects come to life for the student’s body, and know that I'm impacting real change at Western. The student's voice is often underutilized at the administrative level, but WSA gives a voice to the students in a way that few other organizations can.”

Interest, Hobbies, and other Organizational Involvement

“Outside of WSA, I spent 4 years in the Bronco Marching Band, including 3 years as a Drill Instructor for the Clarinet section. (#littleredwagon) From my experience in the Sound of Western, I discovered Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, a coed organization dedicated to serving and empowering college and university bands across the country. I served 2 years as the Vice President for Membership in WMU's chapter of KKPsi, and am currently serving in a national role as the North Central District Vice President for Membership.”

Additional information about House of Rep of the Month

“During my time at Western, I also sang with Mane Attraction, played in many concert ensembles in the School of Music, and attended OUTSpoken meetings when they didn't conflict with band. In my free time (what little I have!) I like to crochet, play DnD, and plan road trips for the SECOND it is once again safe to travel.”
